SYNOPSIS
Ennio is an all-round portrait of Ennio Morricone, the most popular and prolific musician of the 20th century, the most loved by international audiences, twice Oscar® winner, author of over 500 unforgettable soundtracks. The documentary tells his story through a long interview with the Maestro by Tornatore, testimonies by artists and directors, such as Bertolucci, Montaldo, Bellocchio, Argento, the Taviani, Verdone, Barry Levinson, Roland Joffè, Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino, Bruce Springsteen, Nicola Piovani, Hans Zimmer and Pat Metheny, music and archive images. Ennio is also an investigation aimed at revealing what little is known about Morricone. Such as his passion for chess, which perhaps has mysterious links with his music. But also the realistic origin of certain of his musical intuitions, such as the scream of the coyote that suggested the theme for Il buono il brutto, il cattivo (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), or the rhythmic clapping of hands on tin cans by strikers leading a protest march through the streets of Rome, which inspired the beautiful theme for Sostiene Pereira. An aptitude for invention that finds confirmation in his constant love of absolute music, and his vocation for persistent experimentation.
