SYNOPSIS
Eleven blind boys and a common passion: football. They are the blind players of the Italian national team that for the first time in the history of our country participate in the World Cup in England. Their goal is to be among the top five teams in the tournament to directly qualify for the Paralympics. How does a blind man play football? What references does he have to know who to pass the ball to? To counter an attacker? To skip a defender?
There are many questions and just as surprising answers. An example? The ball has a sound, thanks to the metal rattles inside it, so the player can feel and locate it. Another? The attacker calibrates the shot thanks to the voice of an assistant who guides him from behind the opponent’s goal. “Leave us alone” is a documentary that aims to address the life inside and outside of the field of a group of blind people. Boys who practice with passion and determination something that seems unattainable in the eyes of those who see.
Football, on the other hand, becomes for our players an instrument of growth and reason for life. The narrative revolves around the sporty aspect that merges with the human without dwelling on unnecessary pietisms. Focusing instead on the self-irony of the players themselves. The documentary highlights the aspirations and fears of an exceptional group called to go beyond their own limits, but always with lightness.
